Aristotle on the Beginning of Animal Life and Soul Activities

Abstract For Aristotle, animals, by contrast to plants, possess a perceptual soul. However, there is disagreement concerning the point at which soul acquired, for him. On one influential interpretation, Aristotle thinks that acquired not during initial formation of embryo, but some later stage its development. such interpretations Aristotle’s view, newly formed embryo yet an actual animal, plant-like living being or even inanimate matter. We argue, contrast, views from very beginning, as animal exercising basic nutritive and functions. show this interpretation consistent with on embryogenesis in GA , HA PA Metaphysics .
